ZAMEK BOLKÓW

Pierwsza wzmianka o zamku pochodzi z 1272 r., kiedy to książę legnicki Bolesław II Łysy, zwany Rogatką, stwierdza: "castro nostro". Samo powstanie zamku gotyckiego wiąże się jednak z panowaniem Bolka I. W tym okresie powstaje wieża dziobowa. Jest ona jedynym przykładem takiej budowli w Polsce. Jej pierwowzoru należy szukać we Francji i Czechach, gdzie pojawia się ona w XIII w.

Współczesne wieży jest północno-wschodnie skrzydło budynku mieszkalnego C (patrz plan) i część najbliższa wieży w skrzydle B. Całość najprawdopodobniej zamknięta była murem tworzącym ciągłą linię obronną. Do zamku prowadził system bram. Zewnętrzna - murowana (E) - połączona szyją bramną z drugą wewnętrzną znajdującą się przy dzisiejszej cysternie (F).

Dalsza gotycka rozbudowa przypada na okres panowania dwóch książąt: Bernarda oraz Bolka II. Prowadzona prawdopodobnie etapami przyczyniła się do połączenia skrzydła B i C w jeden budynek mieszkalno-gospodarczy. Na niniejszej kondygnacji znajdowały się pomieszczenia gospodarcze (magazyny, kuchnie, stajnie), a powyżej mieściły się wnętrza mieszkalne. Komunikacja musiała odbywać się przy pomocy schodów i ganków zewnętrznych.
